A new way of working with your information
Until now, software required you to strictly organize your notes to get value from them. If you wanted to find everything about a project, you needed perfect tags, folders, or manual structure. AI changes this. Craft Assistant, along with tools like ChatGPT and Claude, understands your content more like a human does. You can now ask:- “What did I write about this topic around last year?”
- “What tasks do I still need to finish for Project Y?”
- “Summarize all my notes related to onboarding new hires.”
Where Craft Assistant works
Craft Assistant is available across:- macOS
- iOS
- Windows
- Web
Space-level and document-level support available. Works in Documents, Tasks, Calendar, Collections, Code Editor, and browse views.
Craft Assistant now supports Image and PDF OCR – generate captions, summaries, and alt text for images and PDFs directly in your documents. The Assistant can also understand and work with Collections, interpreting properties and relationships.
Your data always stays yours
Four years ago we published our manifesto: Your data is yours. That commitment hasn’t changed – in fact, AI has made it even more important. Craft Assistant is designed with a local-first, privacy-first architecture:- Your chat history stays on your device.
- Craft does not persist your conversations on our servers.
- We do not use your content to train AI models.
- Only the minimum data required to process a single request is sent to the model provider.
- For proper cost and AI credit attribution we record token usage and cost, never your text or the content of your requests.
Craft Assistant models
Craft Assistant uses several model types, each designed for a different purpose:On-device models (free)
Fast, private, and ideal for simple transformations and shorter tasks. These run fully on your device and are available for document-level interactions. Available on Mac, iPad, iPhone and don’t require any AI credits.Core
Available to everyone and designed for quick, in-document queries. Requires AI credits to run. Core uses ChatGPT Nano 5.1 as the underlying model.Fast
Great for Space-level questions, deeper analysis, and longer conversations. Requires AI credits to run. Fast uses Claude Haiku 4.5 as the underlying model.Max (for subscribers)
Our highest-capability model: state-of-the-art reasoning, research-level summarization, and advanced multi-document comprehension. Max uses Claude Sonnet 4.5 as the underlying model.AI credits: transparent, optional, predictable
AI has real computational cost, but not every user wants or needs the same level of AI support. Instead of raising prices or forcing everyone into a higher tier, we use an AI credit system:Included credits by plan
- Free plan: 15 credits lifetime
- Plus Monthly: 50 credits per month
- Plus Yearly: 500 credits per year
- On-device models: always free
- Setapp: 25 credits per month

Your current credit balance and history will be visible along with the option to purchase extra credits.

Migrating credits for existing users
If you already had an active Craft subscription before we introduced the AI credit system, you will automatically receive a prorated credit balance based on the remaining time in your current billing cycle. Here’s how it works:- We calculate the portion of your subscription period that is still active.
- You receive the equivalent percentage of your plan’s annual or monthly AI credit allowance.
- To ensure every subscriber starts with a meaningful balance, we apply a minimum credit amount: you will always receive at least 20% of your plan’s full AI credit allowance, even if your prorated amount would be lower.
- If you are halfway through an annual Plus plan, you will receive roughly half of the year’s 500 credits – 250 credits.
- If you are near the end of your billing cycle and your prorated amount would be very small, you will instead receive 20% of your plan’s full allowance (e.g., 100 credits for Plus Yearly).
- Credits added through migration behave exactly like regular credits: they can be used immediately and will refresh on your next subscription renewal.
Use AI your way, even outside Craft
Craft Assistant is not the only way to use your data. If you prefer to rely solely on your existing ChatGPT or Claude subscription, you can – thanks to support for MCP (Model Context Protocol) and the Craft API. These allow you to:- Chat with your Craft documents from ChatGPT or Claude
- Bring Craft content into external conversations
- Save summaries or ideas back into Craft with a simple “Save this to Craft”
- Build websites, dashboards, automations, or personal tools powered entirely by your Craft docs
MCP and API usage does not consume AI credits. To ensure reliability for everyone, usage must remain within fair usage limits. Free users may have different limits from paid users, but the core functionality will remain available to all.
